Nana

A webseries pilot episode produced and animated by Gabriella Hanna.

Nana

Nana is a webseries pilot episode about a geeky, introverted Filipino-Australian millennial who learns to balance and cope with her life-work, cross-cultural miscommunication, and her typical Asian family problem. It is delivered through the comedy-drama genre to speak up unheard voices for the Asian-Australian community, especially women and introverts.

In the production, Gabriella Hanna is responsible as a Project Manager/ Producer and Animator. The responsibility includes managing production timeline, budget, task delegation, outsourcing talent, and bringing the team together. Also, as lead animator, Gabriella Hanna held full responsibility to lead the animator team and create an animation to enhance the narrative of the webseries.

challenges and outcome.

During the production process, we experienced a series of unexpected events. One of them is the unexpected lockdown extension in Melbourne's production place. The challenges happened while we planned our production schedule that supposed to be an offline production, but after the lockdown strikes, we had to change the strategy to make the Nana Webseries is feasibly online while committed to the deadlines.

Our production team is also located in several countries, including Indonesia and Australia. Thus, our team has to work extra to make the production is feasible. The challenges include different time zones, huge file transfers, and online editing workflow.

But at the end of the day, we can achieve our goals while maintaining a good work-life balance within the team. The team is satisfied with our full-of-understanding communication type and non-controlling role, which makes the team members able to unleash their inner creativity further.

The feedback from the privately screened audience is also positive. They enjoy the representation of a story from a minority culture that speaks aloud for unheard voices. It brings encouragement for the community as well as a heart-felt feel through the story and character 'Nana'.
